Perfect Picnic Corn Chip Salad: So, not just for picnics, but also big family gatherings like Thanksgiving. Read a bit more:
Perfect Picnic Corn Chip Salad is right up the wheelhouse for many Amish cooks. First of all, you’d be surprised how popular salty snacks are in Amish communities. Sometimes it’s a little disheartening to see how a once very locavore diet has become filled with canned and bagged processed foods. This is the case in many Amish communities, whenever I visit an Amish home I see bags of chips, potato chips, Doritos to a lesser extent, and Fritos corn chips are very popular, I have found. So, what could be better than Fritos in a salad? Click here for this super salad!
Celebration Salad: Another simple salad that is the perfect way to start a meal, light but delicious! Click here for the recipe.
🍞 Trending Amish Bread
Amish Oatmeal Bread: The Amish woman who made this has this to say about this wonderful recipe: "While often sliced and served for supper, fresh bread can be found on the table at any meal of the day. I used to make a lot more bread when all of our children were still living at home - usually about nine loaves a week. I would bake the bread before they came so when they got in the door it was good and warm. Click here for the recipe.
🍲 Trending Amish Casseroles
Amish Yumasetti: This is a popular Amish casserole modeled after the much-loved Johnny Marzetti. Click here for the recipe.
Amish Turkey Pot Pie: Ah, this will be perfect for the day after Thanksgiving. Check out the recipe here: This pot pie pie crust has a "top crust" only, not a bottom one and cooks well in a pie pan, but you can also use one rectangular 9 X 13 baking dish instead of two pie plates. It may need to cook a little longer if you do that. Also, you can swap out turkey for beef or chicken (and the broths, chicken broth for chicken, etc) and the recipe will turn out just great Click here for the recipe.
Amish Mock Turkey: This is a wonderful recipe especially for people who want turkey without eating turkey! Click here.
Amish Super Ham Sandwiches: This is a delicious autumn supper. Here's a bit more about this recipe: This is an amazing recipe. Okay, there are ham sandwiches and there are these Super Ham Sandwiches. I mean these sandwiches are in a league of their own. We like to make them with Kings Hawaiian bread but you can really use any bread. And, oh geez, I could eat an entire pan of these sandwiches. These are so, so good. Originally when we ran the recipe in the column we called them “sticky buns”, but that name didn’t seem overly accurate. I mean, when I think of a “sticky bun”, I think of a sweet breakfast bread. No, these are ham sandwiches in an amazing glaze and, yeah, they are just amazing. Click here for the recipe.
