Valentine's White Chocolate Dream Pudding Pie

During a cold, windy, dreary winter when the skies are gray and spring seems nowhere in sight, along comes Valentine’s Day to add a splash of color and cheer to what would otherwise be a blah month.  If you aren't getting a lot of bright white snow to brighten things up, this bright white pie, might do it instead! Valentine's White Chocolate Dream Pudding Pie is a perfect way to perk up the mid-winter blahs.

Most Amish don’t do a full-throated embrace of Valentine’s Day.  Like many secular traditions, you won’t find much to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the most conservative Amish communities. But in more progressive ones you do see a surprising embrace of the day among the Amish.  I remember visiting an Old Order Amish home in Michigan on Valentine’s Day and a woman had homemade heart-shaped doughnuts dripping with glaze and ready to eat.   Kids will often make homemade Valentine’s Day cards for their parents and friends.

I think one of the reasons why Valentine’s Day gets a surprising amount of notice from the Amish is that the day isn’t an overtly religious one.   Christmas and Easter are religious holidays that many Amish argue have been overtaken by commercialism.  But Valentine’s Day?  It's just a fun day so partaking in the pageantry doesn’t feel like an affront to anything. (Here are some Amish-made Valentine's Day gift ideas from Dutchcrafters)

    Pudding Pie A Sweet Treat!

This pudding is very typical of the traditional treats served for the love-filled day.  Valentine’s Day treats often involve strawberries, cherries, and chocolate.  These love-filled treats can be whipped into puddings, candies, and caramels and are central to the celebration of the day.   In addition to celebrating the day through edible goodies, some Amish will make homemade cards or pen poetry.   These are all relatively recent traditions adopted by the Amish as secular traditions have seeped into the larger society.

Lots of yummy ingredients in this pudding!

This chocolate pudding is full of amazing ingredients that you can't go wrong with and most Amish would have on-hand or easy access to purchase. You don't not have to use white chocolate in this pudding, you can make it a dark pudding, just buy a regular ol' Hershey's bar if you want to do that. It'll work just fine.

    Mix those ingredients well

This Valentine's White Chocolate Dream Pudding Pie is superb and I like the way it is versatile, using white or dark chocolate. It'll taste just the same either way. We chose white just because, well, it seemed fun and festive and that is what the original recipe called for. But we tried it both ways and it worked fine.

    Crust for pie

The crust for this special Valentine's White Chocolate Dream Pudding Pie is loaded with tasty graham cracker crumbs and brown sugar, if that doesn't say love?

    Delicious

You can flake milk chocolate on top of the pie, like below, or just dress it up with white chocolate flakes, like above.
