So, I spent the day yesterday with Gloria and Daniel Yoder. Gloria writes the weekly Amish Cook column and resides in the tiny crossroads of a village called Flat Rock in the far southern rural reaches of Illinois.
Gloria did some incredible cooking (recipes and photos in the days ahead), took me on a bit of a driving tour (well, I did the driving) of the Flat Rock Amish community and was just her usual very hospitable self.  It was an enjoyable day!
So I'm going to spend today regrouping and processing my photos, stories, and memories and I'll be sharing more. Â But one of the first things I was struck by when I walked into her kitchen was the amazing assortment of fresh fruits and veggies plucked from her garden. Â They just looked stunning almost too artistic to eat. Â Below are the fruits and veggies and a few other scenes from our day!
Fresh Fruits and Vegetables...these look....incredible!
One of my more curious stops was at an "Amish doormaker's" shop....read about my visit with him in the coming days...but this buggy was parked outside.
Sign leads the way to Villa's Country Store, a wonderful Amish owned bulk food and bakery near Gloria's.
