Roll the credits....the star of these recipes?  Her name is Sugar!  White or brown, confectioners or powdered, these 5 sugary Amish treats are tops!  (unless you are diabetic, dislike going to the dentist, or want to lose weight, which is probably most of us!)

WORLD'S BEST SUGAR COOKIES:  These cookies live up to their lofty title. Click here to enjoy!

BROWN SUGAR PIE:   This one really is bliss in a crust.  And if you are planning your Thanksgiving meal, this pie might well be one to consider for your list!  Click here.

BROWN SUGAR DUMPLINGS:   These are as good as they sound!  Click here.

AMISH SUGAR CREAM PIE:    This is an absolute mainstay among the Indiana Amish.  Click here.

    MICHIGAN SUGAR ROCKS

And our final "sugar star" in this act: Michigan Sugar Rocks. Comes from an Amish woman in, yes, Michigan.  SIGH, another recipe that begs for a story behind the name but she could provide none.  So the assumption is that these sugar treats look like rocks when you are done baking.

    Here is the recipe

    1 1 /2 cups brown sugar

    3 /4 cup shortening

    4 eggs

    3 cups flour (scant)

    4 eggs

    3 cups flour

    1 teaspoon soda

    1 pound dates, chopped fine

    1 1 /2 cups walnut pieces

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    1 /4 teaspoon salt.

Mix all together until well combined and drop by teaspoon onto cookie sheet and bake.
