If you come to Amish365.com a lot you would think "Broccoli Salad" is the only salad the Amish ever fix. But, alas, there is more than one salad that the Amish eat. Lots of tasty spring and summer salad recipes, here are five delicious Amish spring salads!

Salads are something that are popular items on Amish menus. I mean, if you think about it, most Amish homemakers have gardens, which are basically salads in the ground. Not uncommon at all for an Amish homemaker to go out to the garden, pull out some radishes, some buttercrunch lettuce and within minutes (wash the veggies) have a fresh salad to eat.
It is hard to get much more farm to fork than a fresh salad. And, of course, salads aren't always lettuce. Potatoes are a staple in Amish gardens and they quickly find their way into salads too. You are starting to see kale catch on on Amish farms. And another non-lettuce salad that is popular is a tomato salad. So, there certainly is a lot of "salad versatility" among the Amish. Frying up bacon and crumbling it into the salad is also something that is popular among the Amish. And, now, to the stars of today's show: here are 5 Delicious Amish Spring Salads.

Haystack salads are one of the most common Amish salads. I think the reason it is so popular is that there really are no rules when it comes to this one. You can just sort of pile whatever you want, wherever you want and tailor it to different tastes. Like lettuce? Great, add more. Like a lot of mayo? Dump it in. This type of salad fits perfectly into the busy Amish lifestyle. I think it works best served in layers, but once layered on your plate you can mix it all up.
