This Amish Maple Cream pie is especially popular in Amish communities where tree tapping is common.  The communities that come to mind especially are Geauga County, Ohio and Conewango Valley of New York.  In these locales, maple syrup making is super popular and maple finds its way into everything.

    ❓Maple FAQ

Do The Amish Make Maple Syrup?

Yes, tree-tapping is a common late-winter pasttime in Amish settlements that have a strong stock of maple trees. Amish communities in prime tree-tapping areas include: Hardin County, Ohio; Geauga County, Ohio, and the Conewango Valley of New York!

This Amish Maple Cream Pie recipe came from a maple-producing Amish community. It doesn't have a ton of ingredients (no expensive eggs), but really manages to pack in the flavor. And you don't need to bake this in an oven, just stove-top and chill in the fridge.

Jessica served this pie to her father and she sampled some herself. Jessica said that the pie is delicious and it is her father's new favorite pie.   The pie itself isn't firm like a classic Indiana sugar cream pie, it's of a pudding consistency such as something you'd find in a butterscotch pie.  So, enjoy!

    Have your pie crust ready.

Simmer over low heat in a saucepan and the flavors will really meld. If you don't have maple syrup, you could use maple flavoring in its place. You'll want to simmer the mixture, not a full boil. You'll want it bubbling up in the center, so a sort of simmery, low boil. Stir it constantly during the process, a whisk works great. Don't use a high heat, a medium heat works better.

It does have a "butterscotchy" look to it...

The pie filling recipe works great as is. You could add a tablespoon of butter to the mixture if you are one of those people that likes a buttery maple flavor. A pinch of nutmeg added to the filling is a variation you will also find.

Mmmmm, makes a nice creamy component

The topping is a simple 3-ingredient mix of whipping cream, vanilla, and confectioner's sugar. You can add a pinch of salt too. Just use a large bowl and mix well by hand or with an electric mixer.

    Yum!

Once the cream mixture is added to the top you should let it chill more. The topping isn't a meringue, because there are no egg white or yolks, it is just cream and sugar, so really easy to make!

    The pie cuts pretty cleanly

Use a 9-inch pie crust, store-bought or homemade. Amish Maple Cream Pie is this delicious, custard-type amazingness. This is a super dessert. Just cover with plastic wrap, foil,or store in an airtight container and refrigerator any leftovers for up to a week.
