Mennonite cooks are very similar to Amish ones.  In my experience Mennonite cooks may use a few more spices, but other wise the farmhouse styles are similar.  This is a superb recipe to try for a weekend, because it makes a very juicy chicken with very basic ingredients.  Give it a try!  By the way, the recipe comes to me from a Mennonite woman in Virginia. She says the key is to add a lot of chicken drippings to the sauce for the best flavor!

    MENNONITE SOUR CREAM CHICKEN

    2 pound chicken breast

    1 /2 cup butter

    1 /4 cup flour

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 dash pepper

    SAUCE

    1 /2 cup sour cream

    3 tablespoons water

    1 tablespoon flour

    1 /4 teaspoon salt

    Drippings from the chicken

    1. Preheat over 350° Add butter to shallow baking dish, melt. Dip chicken in butter & roll in flour, salt & pepper. then arrange skin side up in baking dish. (sprinkle with paprika).

Cook chicken for 45-60mins until done. Add drippings from chicken, water, sour cream, flour, salt, pepper & paprika to sauce pan, bring to boil stirring constantly.

Pour sauce over chicken then serve with mashed potatoes or noodles.
