    🍩 Trending Amish Breakfast

    Easy Amish Glazed Doughnuts: Here is a bit more about this deliciousness: When you've been to as many Amish settlements as I've been to, you inevitably will taste a ton of doughnuts.  Really, is there such a thing as a bad doughnut?  I've not found one yet.  There are some doughnuts though that really stand out to me.  And, yeah, I'll join the masses who rave over the Rise N Roll Cinnamon Caramel Doughnuts in Shipshewana, Indiana.   Man, one taste of those cinnamon dusted, caramel-filled doughnuts will have you reeling.  Interestingly, that isn't the first place I tasted them.  I was visiting an Amish home in Milroy, Indiana and the Amish woman I was meeting took a box of the doughnuts out of her freezer.  She had been in Shipshewana previous to my visit and picked up the doughnuts and frozen them so she could have a quick, easy dessert for company.  And I fit that bill.  Man, one taste of those....pure amazingness.

    Amish Sloppy Joes: This is a classic, read more: Oh, wow, I had almost forgotten about sloppy joes until I read this piece. I think one of my favorite meals as a kid was when Mom would open a can of "Manwich" (Is this still even sold?  I'm surprised no one has flagged it as sexist, where is "Womanwich"?) , mix it with some hamburger and spoon it onto some buns.  Oh wow...pure bliss.  But what about homemade manwich?  I think I made some a time or two after I moved out on my own.  And if you want to cut calories you can make this homemade version with veggie crumbles.  So, here is an Amish recipe, not sure who sent it into me, for your own homemade manwich or sloppy joes:

    Amish Brown Sugar & Garlic Chicken: Wow, this is a good one. Read more here: Among the Amish, chicken - like this Amish Brown Sugar and Garlic Chicken -  is a dietary staple.  It's plentiful, versatile, and easy to fix.  The brown sugar in this recipe gives a bit of a sweet-savory spin to the chicken. This recipe calls for 8 cloves of garlic, some of you may want to tone that down if you find that much too much.  Fun flavor combinations like brown sugar and garlic are not uncommon on Amish farms. I mean,  the Amish may not be known for being super-expressive, so the one place where they can be creative is in the kitchen. Click here for the recipe.

    Dump cakes are popular among the Amish and why the heck not?   They are easy, delicious, and feed a crowd, so when reader Penny sent this to me recently I salivated (and wished I had my passport current, because I'd head to her house in Canada with a fork to sample this!).  Well, driving to Canada to have peach dump cake wouldn't make much sense when it is so quick and fun to make on one's own.
