    Recipe Revisited: Upside Down Pizza

    Published: Jun 8, 2013 · Updated: Feb 2, 2021 by Kevin Williams | 2 Comments

Earlier this year the Amish Cook column included a recipe for “upside down pizza.”  Sounds like a hearty, weekend meal.   Liz from Central Ohio was kind enough to send this photo of the dish to me. Liz added venison to her version and said it was a big hit with her family.  Theresa from Michigan reported good results by adding pepperoni.  So sounds like you can play “musical meat” with this recipe and whatever you wish:)   Doesn’t this look tasty?  As the name implies, it’s kind of an “upside down pizza”, crust at the top and a lot of hot, hearty, saucy deliciousness underneath!  Here is the recipe again in case you missed it.

    UPSIDE DOWN PIZZA

    1 pound hamburger or sausage

    Small onion, diced

    1 medium green pepper

    1 pint pizza sauce

    2 cups cheese

    1 cup flour

    2 eggs

    1 cup milk

    1 teaspsoon vegetable oil

    1 /2 teaspoon salt

Brown meat with green pepper and onion.  Add pizza sauce. Put in a 9 X 13 inch pan. Sprinkle cheese on top.  Mix flour, eggs, milk, oil, and salt.  Pour over and bake uncover at 425 for 25-30 minutes until browned.

Thanks for reposting this. I remember halving this and making it in an 8x8 pan when it was first posted...delicious. I think I will make it again this week before the summer heat comes. Also, when I click on recipes on the top of the blog, I see the categories and when I click on "main dishes" for example, I see a list of all the posts. Previously, when I clicked on that item, a list of all the main dishes was displayed like a table of contents, then I could just view them easily and click on the one I wanted without scrolling through pages and pages of recipes. Do you think that feature will return on the site? It was really great.

        Teresa,
Thanks for pointing that out, I'll get to work on restoring that feature asap...sometimes I don't make it into all the "nooks and crannies" on the site so sometimes a hiccup causes a feature falter - Kevin
