Weekly Blogroll: Amish Cinnamon Bread; Running in Amish Country, Casting Call, A Huge Reunion, and an Amish Wedding....

    Published: Jul 22, 2014 · Updated: Jul 22, 2014 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

Hello!  Lots of interesting stuff in the blogosphere this past week about Amish culture so let's jump right in. Hope you're hungry!

AMISH CINNAMON BREAD:  This really looks like an easy, but delicious recipe.  First, it's not a sourdough bread recipe.  While I love sourdough, dealing with that pesky starter can be a chore.  And this isn't a yeast bread either, so no troublesome waiting for something to rise.  No, this is just an easy "stir n bake" bread that makes something decadently cinnamon-y.  The photos with the recipe are superb.  It makes me want to head into the kitchen now to whip up a loaf, but then I'd have to eat it and I'm trying to lose weight, not gain. Click here for the recipe!

MASSIVE REUNION:  I loved this story!  A Mennonite couple who married 100 years ago still have occasional family reunions for the 1200 or so relatives that that couple spawned.  Sheesh, my wife often brings mac n cheese to my family reunion.  How much would she need to make to feed 1200 people?  This reunion is so big it is held in a gymnasium.  For comparison's sake my Mom's family has their annual reunion at a picnic shelter and we are all wowing if 75 people show up.  But 1200?  Amazing.  The photos with the entry are great, especially those pies.  Yum! Click here to enjoy the post.

CASTING CALL?   Not much to do this post, but it just seemed kind of fun.    If you are a guy, live near Mooresville, NC, know something about the Amish and have always wanted to try your hand at acting, this one is for you!:)

RUNNING IN AMISH COUNTRY:  Marathons that go through Amish country are becoming increasingly popular.  There is an annual one in Berlin, Ohio and Adams County, Ohio just to name two.  The Amish cheer on the runners, hungry runners and their families bring business to bakeries and bulk food stores.  it is good for all!  Click here to read about one woman's half marathon through Lancaster County, a few priceless passages about the Amish spectators. AMISH WEDDING: There's not much to this entry word-wise, but the photos are worth checking out.  Just some wonderful images from an Amish wedding.  Doesn't say where, but these are some great photos.  And, iced coffee anyone?  That must be a new trend among the Amish...I had not seen that anywhere...Hmmmm, could Starbucks be eyeing Amish country next?:) Click here to enjoy!
