Strawberries are a staple on Amish farmsteads, especially when they’re in season. If it’s an Amish and Mennonite settlement in Georgia that’s going to be earlier in the year than, say, Ohio or Maine.

But whenever your strawberry season is, or even if you just get them at the supermarket any time of year, strawberries are such a versatile fruit… Amish homemakers blend strawberries into puddings, jams, cakes, and breads. This Amish strawberry bread has amazing flavor and is a great quick bread recipe.
Strawberries in general are one of my favorite fruits. As an aside, I used to drink Nestlé Quik strawberry milk all the time when I was a kid, I probably haven’t had any in 30 years. I need to buy some at the supermarket some time… There’s a farmstand near me that sells organic strawberry milk during season, and I promised my daughters I’d buy some of that sometime.
My parents made this easy quick bread recipe over the Christmas holiday from an Amish recipe and it is really good. It is not fancy just simple ingredients. It's a moist bread and I just ate it plain but I'm thinking slathered with some butter would make it really amazing.
Another "plus" about making this recipe now is that it reminds us all in the Midwestern USA that spring is just around the corner. So if you want a splash of spring, try making this bread. I think of it as a good "breakfast bread."
🪜 Steps to Making Strawberry Bread
Making perfect Amish strawberry bread is easy, here are the steps!
Gather Your Ingredients
Before you can start baking your delicious strawberry bread, you'll need to gather all of your ingredients. Here's what you'll need: all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, sugar, eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, fresh strawberries (slice them), and chopped walnuts (optional, I'd level them out!). Make sure to measure out all of your ingredients ahead of time so you're ready to start baking!
Preheat Your Oven and Prepare Your Loaf Pan
Before you start mixing your ingredients, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your loaf pan. Grease the pan with butter or cooking spray, and then dust it with flour to prevent the bread from sticking. You can also line the pan with parchment paper for easy removal. Once your pan is ready, it's time to start making the batter!
Mix Your Wet Ingredients
In a separate mixing bowl, beat together ½ cup of unsalted butter (at room temperature) and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in 2 large eggs, one at a time, and beat until well combined. Then, mix in ½ cup of sour cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Finally, fold in 1 ½ cups of diced fresh strawberries. Make sure the strawberries are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
Combine Your Mixtures and Add Your Strawberries
Once you have prepared your dry ingredients and wet mixtures, it's time to combine them. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in a tough bread. Once the mixtures are combined, gently fold in the diced strawberries. Make sure they are evenly distributed throughout the batter. Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing, cooling on a wire rack, and slicing. Enjoy your delicious strawberry bread!
There are plenty of variations you can try. You can try either dusting with powdered sugar or making your own glaze. This can be a delicious breakfast bread, snack, or a dessert. The recipe does not call for any ground cinnamon, but that is something you can add if you like the taste of that with strawberries. A little lemon juice or lemon zest can be added if you like that flavor also, but I've not tried it that way.
You probably could also take this bread recipe and make into strawberry muffins. But I think this works well as a strawberry bread recipe.
