The Amish Cook: Is Baby a Boy Or Girl? And Oven-Baked Cheesecake....

A BABY; AND OVEN BAKED CHEESECAKE

    THE AMISH COOK

    BY DANIEL YODER

    Hi to all of you!
Guess what, our little bundle has arrived!

Hurray, it is a boy! Austin Daniel was born on Oct 30th, filling our hearts with joy. He weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and is 18 1 /2 inches long.
He was born at home and, yes, everything turned out fine. Who but God could design something as wonderful as a newborn baby?

You guessed it, our 3-year-old daughter Julia is totally delighted to be a big sister to a baby brother. She was very excited to show Austin her dolls and toys.
It is very exciting to be a new Daddy to a little son. I can hardly wait for him to be old enough to go make furniture with me. Our shop is a two-man operation as of now. So it will be easy to take him to work with me at a young age. He will probably end up putting me to work and have me take care of him! Ha!
I really enjoy making furniture especially when taking a rough piece of lumber and making something very beautiful. We make distressed and log furniture.

For anyone who would be interested in furniture we have a catalog with our different styles and designs that I would be happy to send to you free of charge.
There are three ways you can request a catalog: by letter, calling or faxing. Address: Rustic Woodcrafts, 10510 East 350th ave, Flat Rock, ILL 62427. Phone, 618-584-3912 or fax 618-584-3915
To give you a rough idea how much our furniture costs. We sell a complete 5-piece master bedroom suit which includes a bed, dresser, 5 drawer chest, mirror and nightstand for about $2500. The furniture is handcrafted by myself or my brother-in-law. We ship nationwide.

Back to our tiny baby, I really enjoyed being home more the last week, taking care of my family.
Austin is a week old now and seems to be a very content baby. We really enjoy watching his expressions. He can make the cutest faces. Julia was delighted to have him giggle when she tickled his cheek. You will have an update next week on how Austin Daniel is doing.

Today I will share a recipe for for next time I would like to make a special treat for my wife.
I make it for Gloria’s birthday every year. She is delighted every time. Gloria’s birthday is coming up next week which is November 12, so I will be making it again soon.

Wish there were a way to see Daniels catalog on line. I have been wanting a certain style end table and for sure he could make it. It is called a Dough Box.

Kathleen - They may, at some point, have a non-Amish person set up a website for them, but for now the catalog is the only way.....Kevin

Congratulations on your new son! Happy birthday Gloria! Awesome roll top desk! Nothing like homemade furniture. And that recipe! I wish someone would make that for me on my birthday. Gloria and Daniel...you sound like you are the most loving and caring family. I wish you well in the coming years.
