    Wiener Meatloaf and Some Amish Scenes

    Hot dogs are not something consumer a ton, in my experience, among the Amish.  They usually have plenty of fresh pork on hand.  But hot dogs are sort of a novelty item and you'll see them ground up in meat dishes or served on the grill at picnics sometimes

    This is a recipe I found in an old, no-longer published Mennonite cookbook. I wish I had a photo of it to share,but I had to share the recipe with you.  Enjoy!

    Wiener Meatloaf

    Serves: 1 loaf
    Ingredients
    • 1 pound hamburger
    • ½ pound ground hot dogs
    • 1 cup cracker crumbs
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • half of glaze mixture
    • GLAZE
    • 3 /4 cup brown sugar
    • 1 /2 cup water
    • 1 /2 teaspoon dry mustard
    • 1 tablespoon vinegar
    • Mix and divide glaze
    Instructions
    1. Combine all ingredients.
    2. Spread over half of glaze mixture on top.
    3. Bake at 375 for an hour.
