Amish Haystacks: Haystack meals have become synonymous with the Amish. Here is a bit more about them:
Classic Amish Haystack proportions can be increased or downsized according to how many people you are expecting. Haystacks for a long time were a common supper dish, but as time has gone by "breakfast variations" have evolved and even dessert versions. Nothing like piling a bunch of s'more-type ingredients on a plate, dousing them with chocolate and caramel syrup, and diving in!
Zucchini Patties: Nothing says summer more than the arrival of plump zucchinis. Fry them up into patties and enjoy! Here is a simple recipe.
Mouth-Watering Barbecue Steak Strips: This is a prized summer recipe among the Amish. Here is a bit more about it: When I was growing up, steak was considered the “gold standard” of meat. Probably still is. The whole debate around ethical meat, the price of meat, the sourcing and supply chains, plant-based meat, I feel like everything has scrambled the landscape from what it used to be. But among the Amish, steaks have always been a prized cut of meat. Click here for steak strip recipe!

Refreshing Iced Buttermilk Cookies: Some of the best, most flavorful cookies I've ever had are made with buttermilk. I remember first trying these Refreshing Iced Buttermilk Cookies at an Amish bakery in Nappannee, Indiana years and years and years ago. Years later, I picked up a batch of buttermilk cookies at an Amish bakery in Daviess County, Indiana and the flavor was like I remembered them the first time: soft and sweet, but not overpoweringly so. Almost a perfect cookie. Click here for the recipe.
Summer Blackberry Crisp: Delicious mouth-watering summer blackberries in a warm crisp. Check out the recipe here.
Coca-Cola Pie: Enjoy your favorite frosty summer beverage - Coke - in pie form:
So, a few takeaways my my experience. The recipe calls for a whole can of Coke! Man, was that satisfying, just cracking open a can and pouring 12 ounces of fizzy wonderfulness into the filling. You have to put the filling over medium heat and and stir until it thickens. But you don't want to stir it until it is like concrete....a thick pudding is probably the way to go.
