Time for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere to see what Plain has appeared this week. Got a good mix of stuff, so sit back and enjoy!
HANNAH & JACOB: Love the work of artist Cheryl McNulty, this week she unveils her completed portrait, a tender work depicting two Amish children peering out the back of a buggy. I really enjoyed this piece of work. Click here to see.
No-Fry Amish Doughnuts. Yum.
AMISH SIDE OF ME'S NO-FRY DOUGHNUTS: Wow, a no-fry doughnut. Now that is right up my wheelhouse. Click here for the recipe.
PERFECT ORANGES AND BASIC FRUIT SALAD: My daughter's always balking at the "strings" on oranges and bananas, although she loves both fruits. Melodie at the Finding Harmony draws upon her Mennonite roots to share a super technique to make serving oranges simpler along with a basic fruit salad recipe. Click here for the recipe and technique.
MARITAL CONTENTMENT? Oprah (wow, she is one of the few people who can be identified just by a first name) and Gayle King visited an Amish couple about 10 years ago and interviewed them on their farm about the secret to a happy life and fulfilling marriage. At the time they said they were 100 percent content. Well, 10 years later, Oprah followed up with them. You'll have to watch the video to see how they are doing. Some asides on this, first, I know who the couple in the video are. I've met some of their family and I think I was even at their farm. They are Old Order Amish, a very progressive group, but not too progressive because appearing on camera caused some issues in the church. For all this story I'll direct you to Erik's well done Amish America blog, he and I often cover the same topics (there are only so many Amish topics to talk about), but his post, I think, covered it all well so no need for me to retread the same topic, click here to enjoy!
CATFISH DINNER IN PINECRAFT: As the waning weeks of Pinecraft's "snowbird season" march on, Katie Troyer shares some wonderful scenes from a fish fry in Florida's lone Amish community. Click here for these wonderful photos.
BLOG TIME WARP - AMISH CHICKEN - Let's go back to 2014 when the Unwritten Recipes blog featured a tasty looking recipe for "Amish Chicken" baked in a heavy cream bath. Yum. Click here for the recipe.
