Time for our weekly romp through the blogosphere in search of anything and everything Plain. Kind of quiet out there in the blogosphere this past week but still came away with some goodies worth sharing:
Homemade Snickerdoodle Bars...
SNICKERDOODLE BARS: For me, snickerdoodles have to be near perfect for me to like them. Too much cream of tartar leaves an icky taste in my mouth and if they are too dry, I'm like "what's the point?", I'd rather have a chocolate chip cookie. The Amish have adopted snickerdoodles as their own because the ingredients are so basic. But these snickerdoodle bars? Wow, oh wow, thank you Meemaw Eats for posting this twist on the Amish classic. Click here for the recipe. LOL, I had made a mistake in the headline and called them "SnickerNOODLE" bars, now that would be an interesting cookie or bar!
READER BLOG - SMOTHERED CHICKEN AND KODIAK SYRUP? Kind of fun to showcase blogs from readers of Amish365.. Little Homestead in Boise bills itself as place to learn about self-sufficiency, food preservation, thrifting, cookery, organic gardening, crafts, DIYing, vintage stuff, and more, Nancy does a super job with the blog, so explore and enjoy! This is a recipe she had on there this year for smothered chicken. Yum. And, hmmmm, we've been learning about King Syrup, which is popular out east, is "Kodiak Syrup" a west coast version?
AMISH SCHOOLS: Tom the Backroads Traveller gives us some bucolic images of Amish schools that dot the Conewango Valley of New York. There are many, usually about every mile or two. Click here to see the photos.
AMISH BROOM-MAKER: Fascinating video of an Amish woman making brooms. Check it out over on the Amish American site! Click here.
GINA'S THREE CHEESE PASTA WITH SAUSAGE: This is an old post from Gina's Home Joys blog. She is a talented Mennonite blogger and homemaker and this recipe sounds like a hearty goodie, especially on a cold, dreary day like today in Ohio! Click here for the recipe.
