We have a fun and interesting blend of posts to visit today. Check out, first:
CHERYL MCNULTY AMISH CALENDAR: Man, this is awesome, read about - and order - a 2018 calendar filled with beautiful, peaceful, serene images of McNulty's Amish artwork. Cheryl has also posted a work-in-progress image of her newest Amish painting, one that may be one of my favorites, I can't wait to see the finished artwork. Check it out and order the calendar here.
RICE PUDDING: This is an old Amish favorite. Meemaw, who blogs from her home in Kalona, Iowa (the state's largest Amish settlement) shares her recipe for this treat. Yum! Check it out here.
A SORT OF AMISH WEDDING: Erik Wesner, vis via Don Burke, has posted photos of an "Amish-ish" wedding. This isn't as uncommon as you might think. While the dramatic "I left the Amish" stories are the ones that grab headlines, there are a lot of less dramatic stories. In fact, the less dramatic ones are far, far more common, where people "sort of" leave the Amish. They'll leave for, perhaps, a more evangelical, organized church but they'll retain the Amish lifestyle and dress. There are a lot of families like this around the "edges" of larger Amish communities and they really aren't shunned that much, there's a lot of family traffic back and forth, which creates some of the interesting scenes you see here.
HOMEMADE AMISH CARAMELS: Mmmmm, you'll want to check out this recipe as we head into the holidays. Yum. Click here.
APPLE PAN DAWDY: This is a famous recipe in Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish circles, and Patricia over at the Patchwork Quilt blog shares a recipe for that this week. Check it out here. Yum!!!
