Ah, happy end-of-August all, time for our weekly whirl through the blogosphere in search of everything and anything Amish, Plain, or in some cases just plain interesting! Some of my "regulars" haven't posted in the past week or so (this is kind of the summer blog doldrums) but that gave me a chance to check out some different blogs. So, without further delay, here are this week's postings!
SUMMER SUPPER SHORT-CUTS: Gina over that the Home Joys blog shares some summer "short cuts" to save time with the meal planning (of course for someone like me pressure-canning a bunch of stuff doesn't seem like a short-cut, but I guess if you really know what you're doing it can be). Anyway, click here to check out Gina's post this week!
PLAIN SHUFFLEBOARD: Katie Troyer has some fun photos of some Amish people playing shuffleboard in Pinecraft, the Amish enclave in Florida. I've played shuffleboard exactly one time in my life, probably when I was about 10 years old in a place called Lakeside, Ohio. And it was great fun and I always thought I'd play again but never have. The game is really popular among the Amish of Pinecraft. Click here for the post.
RAISIN APPLE BAKED AMISH OATMEAL: This blogger is in Pennsylvania's Amish Country and offers up a recipe this week that sounds comforting and delicious. She talks about her young ones starting school and getting back into a routine, it's tough to imagine Aster going off to school someday, but that day creeps closer and closer. I think preschool is in the cards for next fall.....click here for the recipe.
AMISH COUNTRY ON SPEED: I don't mean this at all to be unkind, they seem like a lovely family, but Holy Cow, when I read this account of a family's visit to Amish Country I felt like she was just talking/writing so fast/high energy...it was like watching an episode of the Gilmore Girls....sheesh....there is some beautiful photography, so the blog is worth checking out for that. Click here.
EDITOR'S PICK - BOBCAT BEAUTY - This is off topic but, Holy Cow, or Holy Cat, this is amazing....this writer and NPR commentator lives on the opposite end of Ohio that I do and she had a gorgeous visitor to her property. These visitors have recently made a return to our part of the state also, but to see one from your house? Look at this beauty here!
Amish Rice Krispy Chicken
EDITOR'S PICK - AMISH RICE KRISPIE CHICKEN or is it RICE KRISPY CHICKEN? Either way, check out what sounds like an awesome Amish recipe here.
