Time for our weekly dive into everything and anything Amish online. I had to kind of dig deep this week, there were slim pickin's among our usual favorites, but that is okay, getting to know some new blogs is fun.
First stop, is an old favorite, though.
Amish buttermilk pie
AMISH BUTTERMILK PIE: I went a couple of years back on the Meemaw eats blog to find this amazing-looking buttermilk pie. Man, if you have never had a buttermilk pie before you ought to consider making one. Creamy, flavorful, oh, wow, it's just an amazing and amazingly underrated pie. Meemaw lives in Kalona, Iowa, the largest Amish settlement in the Hawkeye State so her recipes are steeped in Amish authenticity. Click here for this super recipe.
OLD-FASHIONED AMISH APPLE DUMPINGS: This is the time of year for fresh apples and what better way to enjoy them than fresh apple dumplings. Amazingly delicious way to enjoy these delicious autumn treats! Click here for the recipe.
SAUERKRAUT SALAD: Amazing way to enjoy sauerkraut. I tried to get Aster to try sauerkraut the other night but it didn't go over so well. Maybe when she is older. Click here for the recipe.
MENNONITE SOUR CREAM CHICKEN: These easy chicken recipes never rack up very high numbers on Amish365 so I want to try to dial back on them. But this recipe actually came to this blogger from a Mennonite woman, so whenever a recipe has a direct connection to an Amish or Mennonite cook I tend to give it higher credence. So take a look at this recipe.
CHERYL MCNULTY - WOW is all I can say to this one. She took a photo of an Amish garden and then decided to do a painting from the photo...well the painting is just super. Everytime I think she can't top herself, she does. I will have to ask her about the house, the house doesn't "look at that Amish" but you'd be surprised how few Amish actually live in the classic "white clapboard farmhouse." Closer to suburbia, in places like Grabill, Indiana, and Lancaster Co, you are more apt to find these kinds of houses. Click here to see Cheryl's latest!
