PUMPKIN PECAN PIE:   Patricia over at the Patchwork Quilt blog hit the jackpot recently by finding a copy of the Big Valley Cookbook, a compendium of over 1000 recipes from Amish cooks in the Big Valley of Pennsylvania.  The Big Valley is home to one of the most diverse and, in some cases, insular population of Amish.

    Pumpkin Pecan Pie!

The book is tough to find, but if it truly scours the traditions and kitchens of the Amish there, there should be an interesting array of recipes.   And this is one of them...man, this marries two holiday favorites into one: pumpkin pecan pie. I'm not sure how I would feel about it. I  love pumpkin pie, pecan not so much.  But Patricia gives the pie high marks.  See the recipe here.

AMISH CALENDAR 2018 -  Man, this would be a great calendar to have, I might have to order them. Our favorite Amish-themed artist at Amish365 has a 2018 calendar filled with wonderful images of her Amish artwork.  Check it out and order from her here!

KATIE TROYER - FRIED PIES:    I love this, some Amish brought down 500 fried pies and sold them to the Amish in Pinecraft who snapped them right up.  Great entrepreneurship! Click here to see.

HOME JOYS JOYS:    Gina is a talented young Mennonite blogger in Pennsylvania.  She has been gracefully and stoically sharing her life with us as her husband, Ed, battles brain cancer.  If you think you're having a bad day, think of Ed and think of Gina's brave face and savoring of every second.  Click here to read an update from Gina.

BLOG SPIN - AMISH CHRISTMAS JAM  - I spun the wheel for something Christmasy and Amish and I have to say that I've never heard of "Amish Christmas Jam."  Not saying there isn't such a thing, just haven't heard of it.  Sounds good, check it out here!
