Okay, we have an interesting slate of stories on Blogroll this week.
I have to say, though, as hot as it has been in Ohio the past week the "Strawberry Yum-Yum" desserts on the Patchwork Quilt blog looks AMAZING. The recipe comes from Amish-Country Cookbook, Volume 1 ( I used to have a copy of this) and it just looks so refreshing. I probably would eaten the whole creation right there.
STRAWBERRY YUM-YUM: Wow. Again. Just wow. Click here for the recipe.
AMISH FUNNY CAKE PIE: This is a recipe we've talked about before on Amish365. Aster and I made it (or tried to make it) once and it is very popular in the deep Pennsylvania Dutch reaches of Pennsylvania. The reasons why it is called "Funny Cake Pie" are varied, but I like this one that comes from a Bed & Breakfast in Pennsylvania: " The funny cake is a two layer pie with a chocolate cocoa goo on the bottom and vanilla breakfast cake on top. They call it funny cake because when you put it in the pan, the vanilla part is in the bottom and the chocolate on top. Somehow, in baking, it ends up reversed." Check out Patricia's version of the pie here!.
KATIE TROYER ON THE ROAD: Usually Katie Troyer reports the goings-ons in the Amish enclave around Sarasota, Florida. But she has spent the past nine days traveling in Ohio's Amish country and she shared some superb photos of some pretty conservative looking Amish communities near Mount Eaton, Ohio. AMISH PINEAPPLE CAKE: Man, this looks amazing. Check out the pineapple cake recipe on Charm City ramblings. A pineapple cake with a thick vanilla frosting. Life gets no better than that. Click here for the recipe.
BLOG SPIN - AMISH IN THE JUNGLE? This is kind of random but I found this blog post and found it interesting. The Mennonites have long had ties in Belize as have the Beachy Amish. This post seems to hint at some disaffected Amish, perhaps, also living in Belize, trying to carve out a community in the jungle. I'd love to read/hear more about this, but the photos and information posted are intriguing and interesting. Click here to see.
